Fishy February
Fishy February was an art challenge hosted by the multi-media artist Victoria Pfeiffer at the social media platform Bluesky. Like the name suggests, this fish-themed challenge ran during the month of february in 2025 and artists were encouraged to draw or paint artworks based on a specific word each day.
Instead of painting a fresh artwork each day, I instead opted to add a new aquatic animal to the same painting each day, slowly transforming the empty canvas into a detailed watercolor illustration. The animals painted are all on the same scale and although fish tend to vary in size widely even within the same species, you can see how something like oarfish can get incredibly long.
